Fifteen years of running before he stopped to listen.
For fifteen years I ran. Literally, most mornings, and in every other way too: new jobs, new cities, anything that meant I did not have to sit still and think.
A colleague invited me to a Sunday evening service and I went to be polite. I remember almost nothing about it except one sentence from the Bible about rest. I had not rested in years.
I kept coming back to hear more. Nobody told me to stop running. Over a few months I realised I did not need to, because I was no longer running away from anything.
What I would say to someone thinking about coming
Go once and just listen. You do not have to decide anything on the first night.
Come to me, all who labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.
