Came for a funeral, stayed for the coffee.

I did not come looking for anything. A neighbour had died and the service was here, and afterwards there was coffee and I could not think of a reason to leave.
Somebody asked what I did, not what I believed. I remember being relieved about that. I came back the next week mostly because I had said I might, and I do not like going back on things.
It took the better part of a year before I would have called myself anything. Nobody hurried me. What changed was small and then it was not small: I started praying in the car, badly, and then I started meaning it.
What I would say to someone thinking about coming
Sit at the back. Leave when you want to. Nobody is keeping score, and the coffee is better than you expect.
