I came to the recovery group because the court said I had to go somewhere. I picked the one closest to my flat.

For the first month I sat by the door and said nothing. The leaders never pushed. One of them had been where I was, and he told me so on the second week, which is the only reason I came back.

I have been sober for two years now. I started coming on Sundays about a year in, mostly because the same people were there. Somewhere along the way the faith became my own.

What I would say to someone thinking about coming

Sit by the door if you need to. Just keep coming back.
